Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has redeemed his pledge of N10m to artistes that performed at Burna Boy’s concert which held last weekend.
According to a statement by Tonye Brigg’s the state’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Wike has given 10 million naira each to the artistes that mounted the stage at Burna’s homecoming concert in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Some of the artistes that put on a performance include the likes of Timaya, Duncan Mighty, Omay Lay, Nissi, and Burna Boy himself.
Backlash had trailed the promise by the governor who was criticised for intending to use state funds to reward entertainers for doing their jobs.
However, amid the outrage, Wike has now credited the artistes as revealed in the statement which read; “The Rivers State Government has made good its promise to give Ten million naira to each of the performing artistes who participated in the Burna Boy Home Coming State Reception concert in Port Harcourt last Saturday.
The payment has been carried out in strict adherence to the pronouncement of the Governor. The accounts of the beneficiaries have been credited as directed by the Governor, and as you know the Governor is a man of his word and he has redeemed his pledge.”
